Lake Superior Railroad Museum

The railroad was an important part of the history of Lake Superior and Duluth, and the Lake Superior Railroad Museum is a great place to learn about that history. The museum is quite near our Duluth MN bed and breakfast, so if you have some time and are interested in this, we encourage you to visit the LSRM.

Scenic railroad rides are a great way to sit back and absorb the beauty of Lake Superior, Duluth, and Northern Minnesota. The regular autumn runs of the Lester River Train, the Two Harbors Train and the Pizza Train are Fridays – Sundays through October 17th. If you are already planning to stay with us during that time, you might find one of these trips to be an interesting addition to your itinerary.

There are a few special runs this fall, as well. There is a Fall Colors ride to historic Two Harbors, Minnesota on the Soo Line 2719. It takes four hours to travel up the coast and back to Duluth, and you are given two hours to explore Two Harbors. There is also a special Saturday evening ride on the Lake of the Isles dining car. Chefs from the finest restaurants in the area prepare delicious meals, and guests dine in elegance while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Lakefront Line. The next Dinner train runs October 9th, 2009, at 5:30pm. Now is also the perfect time to plan ahead for the Polar Express run in November. We always enjoy hearing about the great adventures of our guests. Should she prefer strolling through the corridors of museums to outdoor activities, visit Fairlawn Mansion Museum in Superior. Built in 1890, this 42 room restored mansion recalls Superior’s boomtown days. Fitger’s Museum in Duluth reveals what beer was like in 1859, back when Fitger’s was the most successful brewery in the state.

On Mother’s Day, we will provide a delicious, homemade breakfast. And when it comes time for dinner, we would be happy to recommend some of our favorite restaurants for an evening out in Duluth. We think we have the best location in all of Duluth, almost floating on Lake Superior, but close to downtown as well. So come this weekend, and bring your favorite mother.
