Dine in private by Lake Superior

Before the decks are covered with winter snows, let’s take a moment to reflect on a glorious moment here at our Duluth inn. Look at this picture, taken here during warm weather. What if you could enjoy your morning coffee here? What if you could sit back and bask in the sun, listening to the gentle lapping of waves on the shore, just a stone’s throw away from where you sit? What if you could share this moment with your good spouse, your good friend, your grown child?

You can, here at our Lake Superior bed and breakfast. We are just minutes from the heart of Duluth, and walking distance to many great shops and restaurants, yet when we sit here drinking locally roasted coffee, we feel that nothing exists except the sky, the lake, and the beach that calls to us. We hope you’ll come experience this sensation for yourself.

Green Bed and Breakfast in Duluth MN

Friday, April 17th, 2009

Here at Solglimt, we care about the environment. How can we not? Situated as we are, on a seven-mile strip of land that juts out into Lake Superior, we are necessarily stewards of the land and water. Our efforts have been recognized by Green Routes, an organization designed to help environmentally conscientious travelers find like-minded businesses. This is a real honor, as we were selected by a committee of our peers.

Green Routes noted the use of additive-free, fresh, and whenever possible local produce in our food, along with the fact that we make an effort to cater to special dietary needs, likes and dislikes. Our cleaners are all perfume-free, allowing you to fully appreciate the fresh air and the scents of our garden. Green Routes also noted the lovely sandstone fountain in our gardens, which we built out of recycled Duluth curbs. Why fill a landfill when you can create beautiful, functioning art?

A great way to travel

A great way to travel

Our location is another factor in our designation as a green business. If you enjoy walking or biking, once you arrive at our Duluth MN B&B you may park your car and let it rest. Stroll along the Lakewalk, which meanders along Lake Superior for more than 3 miles. We are close to downtown dining and attractions, when you want to experience the amenities of the city. Or bring your kayak and head out onto peaceful waters.

We are thankful that our efforts to make our bed and breakfast in Duluth MN environmentally friendly have been recognized by our peers and Green Routes.

We have seen a lot of progress on the addition of our two new green luxury suites this week. Walls went up on the lower level and the connection of the skywalk will be made this week. The paint work on the Aerial Lift Bridge is supposed to be done sometime this week which means that the upper modules of our custom built, sod roofed suites will be arriving soon.

Two Foxes for Breakfast!!

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

This morning we had two foxes that came for breakfast at Solglimt Bed and Breakfast. Our guests were entertained by the couple all morning during breakfast in our Great Room. They hung around for several hours waiting for the rabbit that has taken up a winter residence under our deck. Yesterday morning the last two boats of the season returned to the harbor for winter layup.

Things Are Getting Better At Solglimt

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

Although the economy may not be very good, that doesn’t stop us from working to make Solglimt even better! We have been working feverishly to finish renovations to our Harbor View Suite the last couple of weeks. So far we have added to the suite a beautiful new gas fireplace with a pickled oak mantle and granite front, a new love seat sofa sleeper to add another sleeping configuration to its king bed and we are in the process of totally renovating the bath. The new bath (expected to be completed by next weekend) will have a luxurious new thermal massage spa tub and shower, water saver toilet, “green” Marmolium flooring, and glass and ceramic tiles throughout.
