Whether you walk along its shores or gaze at it from our deck or from the window of your room, we hope you will find it relaxing and rejuvenating.

36GOLF - THE GOOD STUFF

Spring is a good time to golf in Duluth

One pleasant addition to a weekend getaway in Duluth is a round of golf. Throw your clubs in the car and plan to tee-off after a delicious Solglimt breakfast of fresh produce and locally roasted coffee. There is great golfing near our Canal Park MN bed breakfast. Enger Park Golf Course and Lester Park Golf Course both offer 27 holes, short game practice areas and driving ranges. Lester Park is on the north shore of Duluth and has spectacular views of Lake Superior, while Enger Park offers more territorial, pastoral views. If you feel like improving your game, lessons with a PGA golf professional are available.

After your game, return to Solglimt, our Duluth b&b on the shore of Lake Superior, where you can soak your sore muscles in one of our Hydromassage bath tubs.

 Solglimt Fall Color

Fall colors are not here yet. There are some small pockets of color here and there in the Duluth area and up on the North Shore of Lake Superior. As for colors at Solglimt Bed and Breakfast, so far we have our fall perennials blooming and the Engleman Ivy by the lake is always the first to turn bright red. Our fall menu is fitting in right on cue also. Check our web site soon for the few weekdays that we have left during the upcoming weeks and you will be able to enjoy some of our fresh, additive free, fall breakfast items like pumpkin pancakes with apple cider syrup, fresh pear almond streusel cake, and wild rice sausage.

Tall Ships Arrive at Solglimt

The tall ships Pride of Baltimore II, from its namesake city, and the U.S. Brig. Niagara of Erie, Pa., arrived in Duluth at Solglimt on their 10-city tour of the Great Lakes. These two War of 1812-style reconstructions will be joined by other maritime visitors for a three-day festival of music, entertainment and food with a focus on the maritime history of Duluth and the Great Lakes. The third ship is the Schooner Madeline, a reconstruction of a Great Lakes vessel that sailed the upper Great Lakes 150 years ago.

Of course we are full at the Inn for this event but the weather is wonderful here on Lake Superior at Solglimt Bed and Breakfast! A walk from Solglimt, along the Lakewalk to the Rose Gardens that are blooming is a great way to relax while here. We have some weekday availablity if you make your reservation soon.

Summer is Here on the Beach at Solglimt!

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

boats-on-the-lake-at-solglimt-lr.jpgThis past weekend was a wonderful opportunity for our guests to explore the beach and visit Canal Park on foot because of warm temperatures. There was a lot of shipping traffic to watch coming and going from the harbor and also from the lake. Our guests visited Glensheen and the Great Lakes Aquarium. Sunday was a glorious sunny morning and we were able to have our first breakfast outside on the back deck overlooking Lake Superior.

One thing that is always for certain when staying at Solglimt, the views are all stunning no matter what the weather brings: sun, clouds, rain, rainbows, calm, breezy or stormy.

Spring will be in the wake of the Alder!

Friday, March 14th, 2008

USS Alder breaking iceAfter getting about four inches of new snow last Wednesday to “freshen” up the snow banks, today the sun is bright and melting it away quickly. The ice breaker Alder was out breaking up the ice in the Harbor and around the North and South Piers today getting ready for the first shipping traffic to leave the port. This time of year at Solglimt is always fun to watch the ice floes come & go, come & go and then go for good and hear the waves lapping on the sand beach again until next winter.
