Walk to DeWitt Seitz Marketplace

It’s getting down to the wire. Christmas and Hanukkah are around the corner, and you don’t yet have gifts for everyone. You feel a bit overwhelmed. What do you do?

This may not seem the right moment to head to a Duluth bed and breakfast, but it is. Let us worry about providing a nourishing, tasty breakfast, with buckets of delicious locally brewed coffee to keep you going throughout the day. Let us make your bed, and take care of you while you worry about others.

The DeWitt Seitz Marketplace is just up the street from our Canal Park lodging. This is a good place to start your holiday shopping in Duluth. Originally a warehouse and manufacturing center at the start of the twentieth century, it became The Marketplace it is today in 1985. Now it is home to  many shops and businesses, along with some of our favorite restaurants.

The Blue Heron Trading Company, ArtDock, Minnesota Gifts, and Two & Co. and a few of the shops you’ll find at the DeWitt Seitz Marketplace. You’ll probably want to stop by the Amazing Grace Bakery & Cafe while you’re there – the sweet scents will stimulate your appetite even if you aren’t really hungry.

For dinner, we often recommend the Lake Avenue Cafe, in the Marketplace. If you’re lucky, they’ll be serving their lobster pot pie, or you may prefer one of their tantalizing pizzas. Another good option is the Taste of Saigon, for excellent Vietnamese fare.

With temperatures hovering in the 20s, a brisk walk to the DeWitt Seitz Marketplace will make lunch or dinner taste so much better, and the walk back to our Lake Superior inn will help with digestion.

Once you are in for the evening, we hope you will sit by one of the Christmas trees. Settle down with knitting, a good book, or a cup of tea and good company. Your gifts are purchased, and now this is the time for you to relax. Trust me, it will make your holidays much more enjoyable.
