Holidays on Lake Superior

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Our city really throws itself into the holidays, and so do we at our Lake Superior inn. We spend three days decorating the inn for the Christmas season, with two trees and strings of lights. It is hard not to feel all Christmassy when you arrive at the inn between Thanksgiving and New Years, and we like it that way.

This is the perfect place to stay when you come to Duluth to indulge in a little holiday shopping. It is our goal to help our guests leave holiday stress at the door of our Duluth bed and breakfast. Find a cozy chair next to a fireplace, curl up, and finish that knitting project in time for Christmas. Brace yourself for a day of shopping with a hearty breakfast prepared specially for you. Calm your nerves with a cup of tea after you return to the inn, parcels in hand. We are close to the downtown shops, making shopping excursions from the inn easy and convenient. (more…)

Ride the Polar Express from Duluth

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

November 27, 2009, marks the start of the Polar Express, leaving from Duluth. Plan to hop aboard while you are in town staying at our Canal Park lodging. It will help put you in a cheerful holiday frame of mind.

Ride along Lake Superior from Fitger’s Brewery Complex to the Lake Superior Railroad museum, where you will discover a charming antique model railroad. While you marvel over it, enjoy songs from carolers.

Okay, you won’t actually make it to the North Pole. But you will experience a live reading of the Polar Express by actors in costume, and you may visit with Santa if you like.

The 2009 Polar Express runs Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays the weeks of Nov. 27, Dec. 5, 12, & 19. It makes a nice expedition for guests of our Duluth bed and breakfast. When you return to the inn, settle into a comfy sofa in front of one of our Christmas trees and reminisce about your own childhoods and the magic of Christmas.

Bentleyville

Holiday spirit is alive and well in Duluth! Bentleyville will soon be back in Duluth, just a few blocks away from our bed and breakfast on the shores of Lake Superior.

Bayfront Festival Park is just a stone's throw away from our B&B on Lake Superior.

Bentleyville Tour of Lights is a 37 day-long celebration at BayFront Festival Park that runs from November 27 through January 2, 2010. Daily festivities begin at 5 pm and continue until 10 pm. It is impossible not to feel warmed by the spirit of Christmas as you walk among the light displays, warm your hands around fire pits, and indulge in a roasted marshmallow or two. Even the most committed Scrooge will find himself in a cheerful holiday mood.

In addition to nightly light displays and fire pits, there will be live music every Friday and Saturday night thanks to a variety of regional musicians, who will take the stage from 7 – 9 pm.

The best part of Bentelyville for our guests is that Bayfront Festival Park is just a short walk from our Lake Superior lodging. It is easy to brace the cold when there is promise of the warmth of fire and the glow of lights just a few blocks away. And once you have said hello to Santa and indulged in a cup of hot cocoa and a cookie or two, you are only a short distance from the warmth of your cozy room.
